2024 Final Paper Submission Details
Submission Deadline: Friday, October 11, 5:00pm Eastern
If an abstract for an individual paper presentation OR a paper within a pre-organized session is accepted, it was made clear to authors that selection of this format for their presentation also indicated a promise to submit a final paper.
No Deadline Extensions!
The ACSP Annual Conference has grown significantly in participation numbers and remains focused on efforts to channel authors successfully, and create a robust program that rewards the attendees. Paper sessions are much stronger when they are supported
by full papers. While in years past, there may have been some flexibility, the ACSP Staff can no longer accommodate the amount of people who miss deadlines. So, to be clear, there will be no extensions of this deadline, nor acceptance of late final
papers.
Seriously, no shame...happens all the time...if you are unable to submit a final paper by October 11, the ACSP will change your presentation format to a 10-minute Research in Motion presentation rather than a 15 minute paper presentation. Advance notice
is always welcome if you know you'll be unable to submit by October 11.
Thanks for understanding!
Final Paper Format
- Find your Abstract ID#: The Abstract # for every paper can be found in your acceptance email.
- PowerPoint presentation files are NOT considered final papers and will not be accepted.
- Abstracts for the research: Abstracts are not considered final papers and will not be accepted.
- Papers must be substantive. Draft journal articles fit this format well. They may be already submitted to a journal.
Although
there are no official guidelines on the format of your full paper,
please submit your paper using the portal below. Microsoft Word is
probably the most widely used and readily accessible software
format - we suggest you use this software and a very common font, or
save your file as a PDF. We do recommend a 20-page limit as discussants
only have as much time in their day as you do, and we ask them to
pre-read 3-5 papers prior to the conference.
Many in the
planning community utilize the American Psychological Association (APA)
style for writing in the social and behavioral sciences. For more
information or to obtain the APA Manual visit http://www.apastyle.org/.
ACSP does not
publish a conference proceeding book and, therefore, ACSP does not
publish style, spelling and usage guidelines. The ACSP Journal of Planning Education and Research (JPER) states in its "Guide for Authors" (on the inside of back cover)
that is uses the Chicago Manual of Style. Please also refer to the JPER Guide for any citation questions.
About Papers and Presentations
- Paper presenters will be provided 15 minutes for their presentation.
- Discussants are not required to provide comments on presentations for which final papers were not submitted.
- Paper presentations are considered featured presentation types because presenters have made a special commitment to submit a final paper.
- If the paper is not submitted by the published deadline, ACSP will automatically switch the presentation to a Research-in-Motion presentation (10 minute presentation).
- The content of your final paper and presentation must be based on the peer-reviewed and accepted abstract for this conference. You may not substitute different research if the original research is not complete. Please notify conference organizers
that you must withdraw as soon as you know this is necessary.
- Over the course of the summer, you may make minor modifications to the title of the final paper or authors. Contact abstracts@acsp.org. Please note that no edits will be
made to the Book of Accepted Abstracts
Instructions for Submission to Each of Three Parties
- To Your Session Discussant
- Once confirmed by conference organizers, the name and the email address of your discussant can be found by reviewing the session schedule on the conference app (coming soon). This schedule will be continuously updated as confirmations are
made.
- If your discussant is not yet confirmed at the time of the submission deadline, please continuously check the schedule every few days. Once the discussant is confirmed, we will ask that you email your paper immediately to the recently confirmed
discussant.
- To Other Presenters in Your Session
- Conference Organizers strongly encourage you to send your paper to the other presenters in your session.
- Presenter email addresses can be found in the schedule in the conference app (coming soon). This will enhance and hopefully stimulate discussion after all presentations are made.

the abstract ID number (ex. LAST NAME_First Name_0001.123.12.2024). Your file size MUST be under 15 GB.

After Submission
- The conference program will indicate that your final paper has been submitted and attendees/colleagues can email you directly for a copy, or if they have any questions about your research.
- Reminder, emailing your final paper to the ACSP does not get your paper to your discussant or other authors in your session. Send it separately and directly to their personal email addresses as instructed above.
- Submitted final papers will not be published by the ACSP conference organizers. ACSP does not post them on the web, nor in conference proceedings.
- There is NO NEED to RESUBMIT an edited paper after the deadline. Again, we do not post or publish, we only verify the final paper is available.
