The Center for Earth and Environmental Science at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh seeks to fill a 10-month, tenure track position in Environmental Planning at the assistant professor level beginning August 2014. Applicants should be broadly trained in contemporary US planning practices. Candidates should have an understanding of ethical, procedural, methodological and institutional aspects of environmental and land-use planning. Candidates must demonstrate both commitment to and effectiveness in teaching at the undergraduate level.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to Center programs in geography, environmental science and environmental studies and will be responsible for teaching environmental planning, environmental impact assessment, and introductory GIS. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability and willingness to conduct interdisciplinary research that leads to peer-reviewed publications. Responsibilities also include student advisement and service to the department and college.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Planning or closely related discipline. Candidates must have a working knowledge of contemporary US planning practices related to environmental and land-use planning and an understanding of ethical, procedural, methodological and institutional aspects of environmental and land-use planning. The candidate must be committed to research and publication on planning related topics. A successful candidate will possess an understanding of plan making and implementation, and demonstrate their functional areas and scales of practice.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will demonstrate their ability to teach environmental planning, environmental impact assessment, introductory GIS and other specialized courses. Preference will be given to candidates with documented evidence for effective undergraduate teaching and to those who engage undergraduate students in research and practical experiences.

Salary: $48,000 minimum, plus excellent benefits
