Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Urban Planning and Real Estate Development Program housed in the Center for Sustainability, starting August 2014.
Established in 2010 by a grant from the Alberici Foundation, the Center for Sustainability provides a unique, multidisciplinary master's degree in Sustainability, a master's of Urban Planning and Real Estate Development, a joint MBA and masters of Sustainability in conjunction with the John Cook School of Business, and a certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Advanced Remote Sensing. Also, the Center for Sustainability includes the Norman J. Stupp GIS Research Laboratory and the Center for Environmental Sciences, supporting earth and atmospheric research. The Center for Sustainability is seeking applicants with expertise in regional planning, land use and/or spatial analysis. Successful candidates will be expected to effectively develop and instruct graduate courses in the areas of regional planning, land use and spatial analysis; advise graduate students; participate fully in the collective responsibilities of the faculty, which include curriculum design and implementation, continuous improvement and assessment, and faculty governance; and conduct research or other scholarly activities appropriate to the Center for Sustainability mission.
A Ph.D. in Urban Planning or a closely related discipline is required. Also, the successful candidate will be expected to have a record of (or show strong potential for developing) externally-funded research, scholarly publications, and effective and innovative instruction. The ability to work collaboratively with faculty in other programs within the Center and with broad groups across the University is expected. Appointment will be tenure-track at the level of Assistant Professor. Industry experience is highly desirable. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
