The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University seeks applicants for tenure- track faculty position to help provide education in the area of neighborhood and community development and housing policy. We seek someone with the potential or ability to contribute to our national ranking in urban policy/city management, and support the university's mission of engaged learning. The successful candidate will enhance the existing strengths of our academic programs and applied research centers, including urban planning, public administration, neighborhood and community development, and housing policy in a neighborhood context in our academic programs and applied research centers. The candidate will teach primarily in our Master of Urban Planning, Design and Development and Master of Science in Urban Studies degrees and related specialization areas. There may also be opportunities to teach in our Bachelor of Urban Studies degree program.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in urban or regional planning, public policy, urban studies, economics, sociology, political science, finance related to urban development, or a related field. ABD candidates must complete all requirements for the Ph.D. by July 1, 2014. Ability to teach undergraduate courses in urban studies and graduate courses in planning and urban studies, and to contribute to the areas of urban policy. The candidate should possess a research record commensurate with rank with demonstrated interest in neighborhood, community development and housing policy.
Teaching and research expertise in operations of housing markets in a neighborhood context, including neighborhood and community development and/or housing policy, with interest in one or more of the following areas: neighborhood planning, housing policy, housing development, retail development, public subsidy and gap financing, brownfields, urban real estate development, market analysis and project-level development finance, land assembly, historic preservation, community outreach, and grassroots organizing, sustainable housing development, plan implementation, and the planning approval process. Ability and interest in raising external funding, and working with the applied research centers and programs in the College, especially the Center for Community Planning and Development, is desired at the Assistant professor level, and required at the Associate level. The ability to advance understanding and familiarity with issues related to neighborhood and community development and housing policy in evolving market climates and in slow-growth metropolitan areas, such as Cleveland, is also desirable. Interest in working with Ph.D. students is desirable at the Associate level.

The statement should also include information on which courses currently offered at the Levin College he or she is qualified to teach and describe a new course that could be brought to the college.
