West Chester University, Department of Geography and Planning, invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure-track position starting fall 2014. Applicants must have a PhD in Geography or PhD in Planning by the date of appointment (August 15, 2014). ABD with expectation to receive PhD prior to August 15, 2014 considered. The filling of this position is contingent upon available funding.

The department is seeking a candidate with qualifications to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with applications to planning and/or sustainability to a student body having a wide range of abilities, interests, and experiences.

The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory geography and planning courses: to teach courses focused on, or using, GIS as an analytical tool in planning and/or sustainability. The successful candidate will also direct student projects and theses, and mentor students. The normal teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Candidates must have a high level of expertise with GIS software (ArcGIS 10.x). Applicants are required to have the ability to teach Distance Education/Online courses. Preference will be given to candidates with American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification, demonstrated teaching and research experience, and experience in leading undergraduate and graduate research.
