KU Urban Planning Joins School of Public Affairs and Administration

Coming up July 1st is the 1 year anniversary of the University of Kansas' Urban Planning Department joining the School of Public Affairs & Administration. Previously housed in the School of Architecture, Design, and Planning (now the School of Architecture and Design), the Urban Planning Program is housed within the nationally ranked School of Public Affairs and Administration under KUs College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The move bolsters the School's already impressive emphasis on urban policy be bringing in 5 urban planning faculty with expertise in housing, transportation, hazard mitigation, sustainability, water quality, and planning administration.


The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning promotes education, research, service and outreach in the United States and throughout the world by seeking to:

  • recognize diverse needs and interests in planning;
  • improve and enhance the accreditation process, and;
  • strengthen the role of planning education in colleges and universities through publications, conferences, and community engagement;
  • extend planning beyond the classroom into the world of practice.
