Professor Chris Coutts of the Dept of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida State University was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to study healthy sustainable development in Malawi in 2019. He will be teaching Environmental Planning at Mzuzu University and performing his research in the remote northern part of Malawi (where he was a Peace Corps Volunteer, 1998-2000). His research on land conservation and health will inform decisions on which lands deserve protection in Land Management plans in order to secure vital ecosystem services.

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning promotes education, research, service and outreach in the United States and throughout the world by seeking to:

  • recognize diverse needs and interests in planning;
  • improve and enhance the accreditation process, and;
  • strengthen the role of planning education in colleges and universities through publications, conferences, and community engagement;
  • extend planning beyond the classroom into the world of practice.
