Congratulations to Dr. Deden Rukmana, Savannah State University, whose name was drawn to win a full registration package to #ACSP2018 for participating in the ACSP Values Statement survey.

In recent weeks, ACSP has invited our members to engage in focus groups as well as an online survey to gather input on the creation of an ACSP Values Statement. The most recent survey garnered 57 responses -- 42 percent of participants were students, 47 percent faculty and 11% were categorized as "other."

What is the ACSP Values Statement?

While ACSP has a mission statement, we do not yet have a values statement. The goal of the recent focus groups and survey was to hear from members about what values they believe should animate ACSP’s work and mission, and hence our collective work as engaged educators and researchers. We hope that the values statement can provide a point of reference to inform statements by our organization on key issues impacting urban and regional planning education and research, as well as provide a foundation for ACSP's efforts to support our individual and school members.

ACSP’s mission statement is:

The ACSP promotes education, research, service and outreach in the United States and throughout the world by seeking to:

  • recognize diverse needs and interests in planning;
  • improve and enhance the accreditation process;
  • strengthen the role of planning education in colleges and universities through
  • publications, conferences, and community engagement; and
    extend planning beyond the classroom into the world of practice.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the process. Stay tuned for more information about the forthcoming Values Statement.
