JPER Writing Workshop for Early Career Planning Scholars

The Journal of Planning Education and Research (JPER) and it editors will host the annual JPER Writing Workshop for New Scholars on July 16-18, 2018, at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, New Jersey. We seek to improve written scholarship among new faculty of planning and related academic programs. The workshop is intended for untenured assistant professors, recent Ph.D. recipients, or candidates graduating in spring of 2018 in urban planning, urban studies, and similar fields.

The program will include whole-group sessions on writing and publication, with intensive small-group work on participants' own manuscripts. Selected participants must submit an article-length paper, about 25-30 double-spaced pages, by May 4, 2018. The paper will go through a mock peer review process by three referees. The reviews and feedback from faculty and other participants will help form the basis for small-group discussions during the workshop. Applications are due March 19, 2018. Please submit to jper@acsp.org electronically in Word or pdf, labeled with "Last Name-JPER-2018" the documents listed below.

Please combine the four documents below into one file for submission.

  1. Cover letter on research interests and scholarly goals
  2. Application Form (PDF)
  3. Current curriculum vitae
  4. A recommendation letter from a department chair or dissertation advisor

We will notify successful applicants by March 30, 2018, and provide detailed information about accommodations at that time.

There is no registration fee for participants. Participants are responsible for travel to/from New Brunswick, NJ. ACSP/JPER provides two nights of overnight accommodations (double-occupancy) at the Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick, NJ (http://newbrunswick. hyatt.com/), breakfasts and lunches, and an evening social event. There is a single-room supplement fee for participants who wish to have a single room.
