The Person of Color CV books is a collection of CVs of minority PhD and PhD candidates, ABD, who are seeking tenure-earning faculty positions in Urban and Regional Planning. The CV book highlights the considerable skills and talents that each submittal has earned in their area of expertise. The Person of Color CV book is hosted free of charge on the ACSP website’s CV bank for any potential employer to view. The CV book is also displayed at the annual ACSP conference in the Fall and shared on multiple university list serves.

Who can submit?
The ACSP Committee on Diversity strongly encourages CVs from four racial and ethnic groups severely underrepresented among the ranks of planning faculty: African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Native Americans/American Indians and Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders. Current faculty, PhDs looking for academic positions, and candidates who are ABD are welcome to submit. For current students, we encourage you to check with your advisors, mentors, dissertation chairs, etc. as applicable for guidance on whether to apply and to review your materials.

Process

  • Use the format guidelines at the end of this document. Please follow them exactly. If you deviate from them, we may not be able to include your CV.
  • Identify 3 specializations to categorize your CV. If you believe the existing categories do not adequately reflect your work, please suggest a category and if it seems appropriate and relevant to others, we may add it.
  • Proof your CV carefully, convert it to pdf format and email it to: 2017pocresumebook@gmail.com
  • Deadline is Friday/September 8, 2017
  • For students and people graduating after 2018 no more than 2 pages;
  • For people graduating before 2018, no more than 5 pages;
  • At least one inch margins;
  • At least 12 point type;
  • Do NOT paginate;
  • Do NOT use footers of any kind (headers are ok, but don’t include page numbers);
  • Choose 3 specializations for categorization purposes and include them in the body of the email;
  • Check the PDF version to ensure that the formatting is correct prior to sending it in.

Additional suggested guidelines

  • Print your NAME in 16-18 point type at the top – not “resume” or “vitae;”
  • Consider what the two pages look like – your experience and background should be easy to see;
  • Think about what the two pages say about you – your strengths and skills should jump right out; and,
  • Check the current CV Book on the ACSP website for guidance.
