Virginia Tech seeks a director for its Metropolitan Institute, located in Alexandria, Va. The institute serves the research needs of local, national, and international public, private, non-profit and government agencies, through its emphasis on basic and applied research issues associated with metropolitan development, policy and governance, and the socioeconomic aspects of information technology.
The Director must demonstrate the ability to develop a broad-range research program and to generate external support for research projects and must have knowledge of federal and foundation funding programs. The Director will be expected to develop close working relationships with ongoing research efforts in areas such as policy informatics, public health, and network dynamics. While the applicant’s expertise may be in any relevant discipline, she/he must lead research efforts across a range of disciplinary topics. It is anticipated that the position will be tenure-track, with responsibility for a limited amount of graduate teaching and supervision.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in a social science discipline or an allied professional degree. Demonstrated success in funded research is required.
