The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a visionary, collaborative and dynamic leader for the position of Director of the H. Campbell and Eleanor R. Stuckeman School which includes two departments (Architecture and Landscape Architecture) and the Graphic Design program. The Director must exhibit dedication to progress in all areas of the Stuckeman School and advance a vision in the College, University and beyond that addresses increasingly complex global challenges. The Director is responsible for strategic use of facilities and equipment, a twenty million dollar program endowment and two endowed centers (the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing and the Hamer Center for Community Design), which support collaborative learning and research through design. The Director will also serve as an Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Architecture to facilitate collaboration across a broad spectrum of disciplines and work in concert with the dean on administrative issues related to the School.
The Director must demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues and best practices in professional design education. Candidates for this position should also demonstrate a strong commitment to the core values of this major research university environment through experience in interdisciplinary collaboration. The candidate must possess strong communication skills that facilitate working with college, department and program leaders to advance strategic planning and address future curricular, scholarship, and outreach challenges and opportunities. With the dual title of Associate Dean, the Director will actively represent the Stuckeman School to university and external constituents and organizations, including international contexts.
