Pay Information

10 MONTH CONTRACT POSITION - The salary range for this Assistant Professor level position is $4,592 – $6,188 per month. Note that all new faculty hired by the SDCCD start at the Assistant Professor level. Overload assignments are paid at an hourly rate above this amount. Salary placement is based solely upon education and experience as outlined in the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement, and it is non-negotiable. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made on the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, will be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Assistant Professors may earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at San Diego Mesa College for an assignment beginning Spring, 2014. Mesa College is located in the Kearny Mesa area of the city of San Diego. This assignment may include day, evening and/or Saturday classes. In addition, this pool may be used to fill identical vacancies that may occur during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Major Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and experience in teaching lower division/community college level students and commitment to maintaining college standards.
  • Completion of graduate level coursework in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including Remote Sensing.
  • Knowledge, experience and/or academic preparation to teach lower division/community college level subject matter included in GIS curricula.
  • Professional work experience in the field of GIS, including demonstrated excellence in project development and completion.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written, oral, and visual communication.
  • Recent teaching experience in GIS at the lower-division college level.
  • Proficiency and experience in developing, delivering, and communicating GIS education in the classroom and online.
  • Evidence of collaboration with industry, community, and/or professional organizations on curriculum and internship development.
  • Demonstrated experience using GIS hardware and software currently employed in industry.
  • Ability to relate to and work with a diverse cultural and ethnic population.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
  • Master’s degree in geography/geographic information systems; OR,
  • Bachelor’s degree in geography/geographic information systems AND Master’s degree in geology, history, meteorology, or oceanography; OR,
  • The documented equivalent; OR,
  • Meet the criteria stipulated under Interdisciplinary Studies.
