The College of Business & Public Administration at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Urban and Regional Planning, within the Department of Urban Planning, Public and Health Administration to begin September 2013.

The Urban and Regional Planning programs at Eastern Washington University have a long tradition of applied research and student engagement in community development and professional planning practice. The Bachelors’ Degree was established in 1968, and the MURP in 1978; both programs have been accredited since the PAB process was established. We currently offer emphasis areas in environmental planning and sustainability; rural and small town planning; and American Indian Tribal Planning. The core faculty have both academic and professional planning experience, and utilize field research applications in most classes, working closely with professional planners in the field.

The Associate Professor position is to replace a retired faculty member, and we seek a candidate with both professional planning experience and teaching experience, preferably at a PAB accredited Planning Program. The position would start in the Fall Quarter (mid-September) of 2013.

Qualifications – Requirements:

• PhD in Urban and Regional Planning or related doctorate or terminal degree (Geography, Environmental Sciences, Architecture, Urban Design, Policy, or Juris Doctorate) is required. If the doctorate/terminal degree is in a related area, then a Masters' degree in Urban & Regional Planning or in a closely related professional field is required.
• A combination of 6 years successful teaching experience both graduate and undergraduates at the college or university level with preference for teaching in PAB recognized program that includes a minimum of 1-3 years of professional planning experience in the public or private sector;
• Specializations desired are in comprehensive land use planning, environmental planning, urban design, GIS, and sustainable development. Applicants with backgrounds in transportation or economic development may also be considered;
• Evidence of scholarly research publications in urban planning or related fields;
• Evidence of on-going research in one or more of the areas of urban planning;
• Evidence of professional activity in urban planning or related professions, including the American Planning Association or planning-related professional organizations;
• Evidence of field-based teaching and/or research in planning or related fields.

Additionally, candidates must offer interest, experience pr ability to promote cultural competency or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified as AICP, FAICP preferred;
• Evidence of community engagement;
• Online teaching experience;
• Teaching and research ability in public administration and/or community/environmental health.
