Position: College Lecturer or College Associate Lecturer in Geographic Information Systems and Urban Studies (Non-Tenure Track)

Duties: The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs seeks applicants for a renewable one year College Lecturer/College Associate Lecturer in Geographic Information Systems and Urban Studies beginning August 19, 2013. Appointment as a College Associate Lecturer requires a Ph.D. The position is annually renewable for an additional five years based on satisfactory performance, programmatic needs and university financial resources. After a comprehensive sixth year review, the appointee will be eligible for two successive three-year appointments and six year appointments thereafter. If reappointed after the initial six-year reappointment process, the appointee will become a member of the CSU-AAUP. Hiring is contingent upon maintaining existing levels of funding from the state of Ohio. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and cross-listed undergraduate/graduate courses as needed in the areas of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartography and graphics, urban geography, physical geography, and general urban studies. The faculty member will teach 4 courses each semester (15 to 16 credit hours) and provide service to the college and the university. While there is no requirement for research, funded applied research opportunities with the Urban Center are possible. Qualifications: Minimum: Master’s degree in urban studies, geography, geology, planning, environmental studies or science, public administration, or related discipline; college level teaching experience in GIS, and geography/urban studies-oriented classes; experience teaching ArcGIS software; exemplary student evaluations in college level courses taught.
Preferred: Ph.D. in urban studies, geography, planning, environmental studies or science, public administration, or related discipline; extensive and high quality college level teaching experience in GIS, and geography/urban studies-oriented classes; academic or professional experience relevant to teaching areas; familiarity with social science and environmental studies data sets; ESRI or other relevant professional certifications/credentials. Candidates should submit a letter indicating interest in the position and summarizing qualifications; a curriculum vita or resume; a list of courses previously taught at the university level; a sample syllabus from two of the courses previously taught; teaching evaluations from two of the courses previously taught; a list of Levin College courses the candidate considers himself or herself qualified to teach; three letters of reference, preferably commenting directly upon the candidate’s teaching experience.
