An editor of popular series of books, dedicated to presenting challenging topics in a fun and irreverent manner, seeks candidates interested in writing a new entry in the series, dedicated to urban planning.

This book will be aimed at a general readership interested in exploring the topic of urban planning. Tracking to an introductory course on urban planning, the book would be ideal for a student considering studying urban planning or anyone involved in urban development, including those in government, architecture, public health, and community development. The book will be published internationally and may be translated.

The successful candidate will have experience teaching urban planning at the introductory level and be comfortable providing an overview of the major facets of urban planning. Candidates with a Ph.D. in urban planning or a related field are preferred. Experience writing for the general public would be a significant asset. The author of the book will be expected to participate in promotion of the title, and special consideration will be given to candidates who are interested in promoting the book through professional connections and social media.

Payment for the project would be royalty-based, and would include an advance against royalties paid in installments during the writing of the manuscript. Deadlines for the project are negotiable, although the ideal publication date would be November, 2011.
