The Catholic University of America School of Architecture and Planning in Washington, D.C., seeks candidates for two positions for the fall 2010 academic term:

• Visiting Professor in City and Regional Planning (full-time, non-tenure-track, one-yr. appt.)
• Professor of Practice in Real Estate Development (sixty percent, non-tenure-track, one-yr. appt.)

The Catholic University of America has the oldest and largest school of architecture in the Washington metropolitan region. The school is recognized for high quality design balancing theory and practice, as well as for its long-standing ties to the professional community. Our strong design culture and creative community spirit attract a local, national, and international faculty and student body. The school offers the preprofessional Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Its graduate programs include the accredited Master of Architecture and a postprofessional Master of Architectural Studies; two new graduate programs, the Master of Science in Sustainable Design and the Master of City and Regional Planning, add to the traditional offerings of the school.

CITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING POSITION
Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor

The successful candidate will have expertise in core subjects of planning as well as in planning methods and applications including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and urban economics. The successful applicant should have background and experience in planning in addition to academic credentials, and demonstrate experience or potential in teaching. Candidates with a Ph.D. (advanced ABD considered) in urban planning or a related field are preferred. A scholarly commitment to the fields of urban planning, urban studies, community development, GIS, and/or sustainable development as demonstrated in their research agenda, publications, and grants are also important considerations.

Primary duties will include teaching, research/creative activities, and school/university/community service, as per faculty handbook expectations. The candidate will be expected to teach introductory and advanced courses in planning and quantitative methods, urban economics, and geographic information systems with an opportunity to teach some courses in his/her area of expertise.

Faculty will be expected to contribute to the development of the new program. The position may involve participation in design studios, lectures, advanced seminars, the supervision of thesis students and student advising. Faculty members also contribute through research and service. Research may be creative, professional or theoretical. External grants, commissions, competitions, committee duties, and service to the community, university and the school are important.

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, one year appointment for the Academic Year 2010-2011, which begins on Aug. 30, 2010.

REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT POSITION
Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice in Real Estate Development
The successful candidate shall demonstrate expertise in the real estate development field including knowledge of the interrelationship between the architectural design process, economics and real estate development. The successful candidate will have substantial practical experience as an architect, urban economist or real estate developer specializing in one of the following architecture/urban design, financial project analysis and management or urban project financing and regulatory processes. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in an architectural studio focused on the design of sites and buildings typical of real estate development projects or lead support lecture courses in urban economics, finance and regulatory/urban planning related topics that are specifically targeted at architect students’ understanding of real estate development. Added consideration will be given to demonstrated teaching experience of architects. In addition, the individual will be expected to contribute to the development of the respective program through pursuit of grants and supportive outreach activities related to the real estate development concentration. A terminal degree of M.Arch. or Ph.D. is required.
This is a sixty percent, non-tenure-track, one year appointment for the Academic Year 2010-2011, which begins on Aug. 30, 2010.
