OPEN POOL ANNOUNCEMENT

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Limited duration, renewable for up to three years; non-career non-tenure track; full or part time; salary $30,000 - $70,000 DOE, primarily at low end of scale. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis and screening of applications will take place as positions become available.

PRIMARY GOALS OF POSITION: The purpose of this announcement is to create an open pool of applicants who may be hired at a future date to assist institute researchers with various aspects of their grant-funded projects.

PROGRAM INFORMATION: The institute’s research projects are wide ranging and include sustainable rural development, green jobs, public policy, land use, collaboration, wildfire management, ecological restoration, biodiversity conservation, alternative energy, climate change, health policy, communication and outreach, geographic analysis and other issues. The specific job’s duties will depend on the purpose of the research project.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree for Research Assistant, doctorate required for Research Associate, positions in applied relevant fields, such as environmental studies, social science, natural resource science, or other related fields.
  • Two years experience with some combination of natural resource policy and management, community-government relations, collaboration, climate change, sustainable rural development, forestry or ecology, land use or transportation policy, or related field.
  • Knowledge/experience with a variety of qualitative and quantitative social science or natural science research methods and willingness and ability to learn new methods as need arises.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain overall program mission.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

DUTES WILL VARY WITH SPECIFIC PROJECT AND MAY INCLUDE

  • Implementing research and assessment projects from methods development, data collection, analysis, through writing.
  • Implementing public service projects, such as organizing and/or facilitating meetings, making presentations.
  • Communicating to the public using a variety of tools including reports, web pages, and talking with the press.
  • Coordinating, editing and monitoring work of UO students
  • Traveling locally/regionally/nationally as needed by project.
  • To prepare reports and evaluations for funders and others
