The Graduate Planning Program in The University of Arizona's School of Landscape Architecture and Planning is seeking candidates for two tenure track positions starting with the 2010-11 academic year. We seek candidates to work in one or more of the program's areas of specialization and have a willingness to engage in cross-disciplinary activities in the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture and The University of Arizona.

The Graduate Planning Program offers four specializations: Land Use and Community Development, International and Borderlands Planning, GeoDesign and Regional Planning, and Environmental and Healthy Cities Planning.

Applicants must hold (or will receive prior to August 2010) a doctorate in city and regional planning or an equivalent degree in a related field and must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, research, and practice. Interests in providing technical assistance to communities and experience in applied planning are preferred.

Ideal candidates will have teaching, scholarly, and professional interests in land use, physical planning, and geospatial design, and will have experience in public engagement. Our preferred candidates will be members of the American Institute of Certified Planners and show a strong commitment to improving professional practice through creative activity and/or scholarship.

Position One centers on Geographic Information Systems, Landscape Planning, Regional Planning, Land Use Suitability, and the emerging area of GeoDesign as it relates to physical planning and design. The successful candidate will be eligible for possible joint appointment with other units in the college. AICP or eligibility is preferred.

Position Two focuses on the core components of the profession including but not limited to planning theory, infrastructure, economic development, planning law, statistics and quantitative methods, housing, and professional practice. AICP or eligibility is required.

Duties and Responsibilities: The usual teaching load for each position is four to five courses over two semesters. We expect to choose the two successful candidates based on their qualifications and how they together meet our research, teaching, community practice and interdisciplinary needs. Active participation in program and college affairs and a strong interest and demonstrated experience in collegial activity is required.

A PAB-accredited program begun in 1970, the Program is dedicated to educating professional planners for work in a changing world. The University of Arizona is a Carnegie Foundation-classified Research I institution.

Applications will only be accepted through The University of Arizona Human Resources Website at http://www.hr.arizona.edu/. Please search position for #44633. The closing date is quite close but applications will be reviewed on an on-going basis until the position is filled.
