Faculty Position: Assistant Professor, Urban and Regional Geography Program, Department of Geography, #000790
The Planning Program in the Department of Geography, Harriot College of Arts and Sciences at East Carolina University, is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2010. The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of the Planning Program through teaching core planning courses and electives at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and conducting research and engagement. We seek candidates with primary research interests in sustainable community design and development, coastal and environmental planning, or rural community planning, as they relate to physical planning and/or design of the built environment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in planning or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with AICP certification, teaching experience, a productive publication record, evidence of funded research potential, and who show innovation in technology for research, teaching, or engagement. Faculty will be considered from a range of specialties that complement the strengths of the department and enhance the program’s mission of planning education and service in the region.
The Urban and Regional Planning Program at East Carolina University (http://www.ecu.edu/plan/) is the only accredited program in North Carolina to offer the B.S. degree in urban and regional planning. Program faculty also contribute to the Planning Concentration within the M.A. in Geography. Program specializa¬tions include community, land use, coastal and environmental planning, as well as sustainable site design. Faculty are active in com¬munity engagement efforts, and are affili¬ated with the Center for Natural Hazards Research, Institute for Coastal Science & Policy, Center for Sustainable Tourism, and interdisciplinary graduate programs in Coastal Resources Management, Security Studies, and Public Administration.
