University of Wisconsin - Madison

Comings and Goings

Two new assistant professors join the department this fall.  Dr. Marcus Lane is a natural resources/environmental policy planner who did his PhD work at the University of Queensland, Australia.  His special interests include social-environmental impact assessment, and resource planning and indigenous peoples.  Lane has recently co-edited a new book (with Geoff McDonald, University of Queensland) "Securing the Wet Tropics".  Dr. Victoria Beard (Ph.D. University of British Columbia) is a specialist in international development planning, with a focus on the role of community organizations in the planning process, and poverty alleviation. She comes to the department following a RAND Fellowship, where she was involved with studies on aging and family life surveys; Dr. Beard will be teaching international planning and planning theory courses in the department.

Dr. Sandra Hoffmann has left the department to join Resources for the Future in Washington, D.C.

Emeritus Prof. Leo Jakobson passed away this past year, and a Memorial Fund has been established in the department.
