Comings and Goings
Two new assistant professors join the department this
fall. Dr. Marcus Lane is a natural resources/environmental policy planner
who did his PhD work at the University of Queensland, Australia. His
special interests include social-environmental impact assessment, and resource
planning and indigenous peoples. Lane has recently co-edited a new book
(with Geoff McDonald, University of Queensland) "Securing the Wet
Tropics". Dr. Victoria Beard (Ph.D. University of British Columbia)
is a specialist in international development planning, with a focus on the role
of community organizations in the planning process, and poverty alleviation. She
comes to the department following a RAND Fellowship, where she was involved with
studies on aging and family life surveys; Dr. Beard will be teaching
international planning and planning theory courses in the department.
Dr. Sandra Hoffmann has left the department to join
Resources for the Future in Washington, D.C.
Emeritus Prof. Leo Jakobson passed away this past year,
and a Memorial Fund has been established in the department.
