Writing for Scholarly Publication:

From Idea to Article

Portland, OR

August 16-18, 2001

Sponsored by:

Journal of the American Planning Association
Journal of Planning Education and Research

This workshop includes sessions on the writing and publication processes with intensive small-group work assisting participants in revising their own manuscripts for publication. The editorial teams of the Journal of the American Planning Association and the Journal of Planning Education and Research serve as faculty. The workshop is open to recent recipients of a Ph.D. (and those close to completion) in urban planning, urban studies, or closely related fields. Untenured, assistant professors are also eligible to participate.  There is no registration fee; and we hope to be able to offer grants to help cover the costs of shared hotel rooms, meals and some travel.

Those interested in participating should submit the following materials to the editorial office of JAPA no later than April 2:

A Curriculum Vitae;

A letter outlining your research interests and scholarly goals;

A 500-word summary of the article-length paper you would prepare for the workshop; and

A letter of recommendation from your department chair or dissertation                 adviser.

Also note that all participants will be expected to submit a complete draft of their paper by July 1.
