In 2017, there was plenty of bad news for people and the planet. And yet, even in these trying times, there are extraordinary people working to build sustainable, equitable cities. At the Island Press Urban Resilience Project, we’ve collaborated with a diverse group of activists, academics and practitioners to share ideas of how to better shape our common future.

Those ideas—originally published as op-eds, articles, think pieces, and more—have now been collected in a new (and free!) e-book, Resilience Matters: Transformative Thinking in a Year of Crisis.

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning promotes education, research, service and outreach in the United States and throughout the world by seeking to:

  • recognize diverse needs and interests in planning;
  • improve and enhance the accreditation process, and;
  • strengthen the role of planning education in colleges and universities through publications, conferences, and community engagement;
  • extend planning beyond the classroom into the world of practice.
