Committee on Diversity: Call for Syllabi
Tuesday, June 27, 2017
On behalf of ACSP’s Committee on Diversity, I would like to invite instructors in planning programs to submit syllabi of their courses that substantially address issues of diversity and social justice. The Committee on Diversity conducts activities aimed at increasing faculty and student diversity as well as expanding diversity in the curriculum. Submissions will be included in a Syllabi Book, which will be an update on the last version published in 2013 and is expected to be released ahead of the upcoming ACSP conference in Denver.
Please submit a Word or PDF version of your syllabus by email to firstname.lastname@example.org before August 15, 2017.
There are many dimensions of diversity—race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, religion, language, among others, and our goal is to capture a comprehensive set of syllabi that cover any of these dimensions. We are interested in courses that are part of a program’s required knowledge, skills, or values, as well as those that are elective or are in specialization areas. The Syllabi Book will serve as a resource for all who seek pedagogical approaches, readings, multi-media resources, and other information pertinent to planning in diverse communities and societies. We also hope that the Syllabi Book will be useful to faculty and programs aiming to fulfill Planning Accreditation Board’s new Accreditation Standards adopted in March 2017 which notes that “ [t]he curriculum must include instruction to prepare students to practice planning in communities with diverse populations and to develop skills necessary to create equitable and inclusive planning processes.”
