Department of Geography & Urban Planning

Assistant Professor of Urban Planning

The Department of Geography and Urban Planning seeks applications and nominations to fill a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position.  The successful candidate will offer classes in our accredited Master of Urban Planning program, as well as contribute to undergraduate teaching in the Department. We are particularly interested in candidates whose interests and skills position them to offer classes in an established concentration in either Urban Economic Development or Managing Metropolitan Growth.

The ideal candidate will exhibit high standards of urban scholarship, enthusiasm for first-rate teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a commitment to community engagement. Candidates must be able to work effectively in a diverse urban environment. An interest in contributing to professional urban planning practice would be highly valued.

At the time of appointment, candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in urban planning, urban studies, public policy/public administration, or a related field. Applications from women and members of minority groups are actively sought.

Wayne State University is a Carnegie Research University, Very High Activity, with a strong commitment to its urban mission. The Department provides a collegial, productive environment and enjoys excellent ties to the Center for Urban Studies, which can provide strong support for externally funded research.

Applications must be submitted electronically at http://jobs.wayne.edu; reference posting number 034676. Please submit a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, and names and contact information for three references. To receive full consideration, applications must be complete no later than December 28, 2007.  Proposed starting date for the position is August 15, 2008.
