University College Dublin is a large and diverse University whose origin dates back to 1854. There are over 22,000 students including 2,500 international students from more than 80 countries. The University is situated on a large modern campus about 4km to the south of the centre of Dublin.

The School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy developed from the recent academic restructuring of the University. This School unites, in a way that is unique in Ireland, three disciplines that are concerned with understanding and shaping the world around us. Academic learning is combined with professional education; the creation of knowledge is linked with its application in the real world. Each discipline draws on the approaches and techniques of the others and is enriched by this interaction while maintaining its own integrity. It is the only university school in Ireland specialising in research and teaching in geography, spatial planning, and environmental policy.

Research in the School is organised around three major research themes:

bulletGovernance, Public Policy and Planning
bulletSociety, Time and Place
