University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee

Two Faculty Positions in Urban Planning

The Department of Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (UWM) invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in Urban Planning beginning fall 2008.  Qualified candidates must hold a Ph.D. in urban planning or a related field, or be expected to complete the Ph.D. by August 2008.  Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to research and publication in peer review journals, strong research capabilities, and a commitment to engaging in research grounded in the needs of urban planning professionals and the communities they serve.  Candidates should have a background appropriate for teaching in the Master of Urban Planning program.  Professional planning experience and a masters degree in urban planning are highly desirable.  Competence in addressing diversity issues in higher education and in planning is highly desirable, along with an interest in addressing environmental sustainability in ways that increase social justice and decrease economic insecurity.

The University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee is a major urban university committed to academic excellence, located in the commercial and industrial hub of Wisconsin.  The campus is in a pleasant residential neighborhood on Milwaukee’s northeast side, only a few blocks from Lake Michigan.  UW – Milwaukee is one of only two “doctoral cluster” campuses in the 13-campus University of Wisconsin System.  With student enrollment surpassing 28,000, UWM continues to move up the ranks of research universities.  The Department of Urban Planning offers the Master of Urban Planning, enrolling approximately 50 graduate students.  The department also offers an undergraduate Certificate in Urban Planning Studies and a graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems.  The faculty is currently developing a new certificate program in Sustainable Environment and Economy.

Salary is negotiable and competitive, based on qualifications and experience.

Applicants should send their vita, references and a letter of application to:
