The School of Architecture and
Planning at the University of New Mexico is seeking an Assistant Professor
of Planning with expertise in applied physical planning and design. The
Assistant Professor of Planning will teach undergraduate and graduate
seminars and planning studios, co-ordinate the CRP Physical Planning and
Design concentration, advise graduate students, conduct research, engage in
community service and assume regular faculty responsibilities. This
probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision will begin August 14,
2008.
The Community and Regional Planning Program
is part of the School of Architecture and Planning, along with the
Architecture and Landscape Architecture Programs. The School also offers
interdisciplinary, graduate certificate programs in Historic Preservation
and Regionalism, and Town Design.
Minimum Qualifications:
1) Master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning, Urban Studies and
Planning, or a terminal professional degree in a related field; 2)
demonstrated expertise and practice in applied physical planning and design
at the site, subdivision, community and regional scale; 3) teaching
experience and competence in physical planning and geo-spatial analysis; 4)
show promise for distinguished record of community engagement, scholarship,
applied research and professional accomplishment in practice.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Demonstrated expertise in community-based design and development; 2)
experience in applying principles of human and natural ecology in physical
planning and infrastructure design; 3) knowledgeable about spatial
representation of information, physical plan preparation, plan
implementation and development review; 4) demonstrated ability to work in
interdisciplinary and collegial setting; 5) demonstrated ability to teach
planning studios, and topical seminar courses such as the Foundations of
Physical Planning, GIS, and/or Urban Design Theory; 6) Ph.D. in Community
and Regional Planning or closely related field.
