The Department of Urban Planning and Environmental Policy (UPEP) in the Barbara-Jordan- Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs (SPA) at Texas Southern University (TSU) is seeking applications for Department Chair as a full-time tenured position at the Associate of Full Professor level effective August 2008.

Candidates for this position must have an established record of research and publication, teaching, and service appropriate for either an associate of full professor.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate-level lecture, seminar, and studio courses and conduct research in urban planning and/or environmental policy.

This position offers an opportunity for a seasoned scholar to help build a needed new program in planning at one of the nation’s foremost HBCUs in the heart of one of America’s most dynamic and fascinating city. Renowned for its rejection of land use zoning, Houston is nevertheless planning for a projected doubling of its population over the next three to four decades. Houston is the nation’s fourth largest city, home to 2 million people and a hub of international businesses.  In addition to having a rather affordable housing market, Houston is home to the world's largest concentration of medical professionals, world-renowned museum and theater districts, and several major league sports team (basketball, baseball, and soccer).

Applicants should include a letter describing relevant research, teaching, administrative, and funding experience as well as future plans in these areas; curriculum vitae; copies of significant publications; evidence of teaching excellence; and names of three people who could provide letters of reference.  Review of the applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
