The Department of Geography and Urban Studies

Lecturer in Geography and Urban Studies

Temple University’s Department of Geography and Urban Studies (GUS) invites applications for two lecturers for academic year 2008-9.  These are renewable positions, with an initial one year appointment.  PhD in Geography, City and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, or a related field must be completed by the start of employment. 

The successful candidates will have an active role in GUS www.temple.edu/gus), which offers an innovative major for undergraduates that combines the analytical frameworks of the discipline of geography with the field of urban studies through four focus areas: social justice, globalization, geographic methods and sustainability. We are looking for people who are comfortable with interdisciplinary approaches and are able to teach introductory level geography and urban studies courses as well as upper level courses in an area of specialty.  Areas of interest are open, but should include at least some of the following: urbanization in the US and/or international urbanization, GIS and geographic methods, globalization, and urban policy.
