POSITION DESCRIPTION: The College of Liberal Arts and Social Studies at Savannah State University, a senior unit of the University System of Georgia, and the System’s oldest historically Black university, invites applications for a tenure-track position for a graduate faculty member in Urban Studies, at the rank of assistant professor, with a start date no later than August, 2008. Applications are welcome from candidates who have urban specializations and can teach within the full range of the graduate program in urban studies. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm and qualifications necessary to advance the program, engage graduate and undergraduate students, and establish relationships that will help build a regionally-respected graduate program of the Master of Science in Urban Studies. An active role in the local community is expected. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have earned the doctorate in Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Public Administration or a closely related field (ABD will also be considered). Appropriate documentation of a record of high quality teaching, research, grants writing, and professional experience must be provided. In addition, the successful candidate will have training or experience in one or more of the following areas: transportation, growth management, environmental planning, land use planning or urban design. Applicants with GIS knowledge and experiences are preferred. SALARY/ BENEFITS: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
