The Department of
Community and Regional Planning (CRP) at Iowa State University is seeking to
fill two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor starting August 16, 2008. The successful candidates will
contribute to the mission of the department and the College of Design
through teaching core planning courses and electives at the graduate and
undergraduate levels and contribute to research in at least one of following
areas of interest: community and regional economic development, environment
and sustainability, and land use and infrastructure.
Candidates for
Assistant Professor must have, at a minimum, the following required
qualifications: a Ph.D. in planning or related field, plus AICP membership
or potential eligibility. ABDs will be considered, and if hired, will
initially receive a conditional appointment at the rank of Instructor, but
the Ph.D. must be completed by the end of the first academic year of
appointment. Candidates for Associate Professor must presently hold tenure
at the rank of Associate Professor with significant accomplishment in
scholarly work.
Preferences will be given to candidates who have a
Ph.D. in planning and show evidence of a productive scholarly career through
publications, academic presentations, sponsored funds and grants, and
teaching experience.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with
experience.

The CRP Department, located the College of Design,
believes that working with citizens, planners advance change for the
betterment of community life locally, regionally, nationally and
internationally. We prepare and sustain professional planners who are
critical and creative thinkers, technically competent, culturally and
ethically aware global citizens and have the ability to influence outcomes
in the physical and policy environment. Our multicultural department engages
with planning practice in integrating research, teaching and outreach
consistent with the tenets of the Land Grant Mission. We are known for our
strong community-based learning and scholarship in an applied context
including a commitment to Extension and Outreach that strengthens the
sustainable relationship between people and the land.
Opportunities for multidisciplinary work are readily
available. The department offers two accredited planning degrees: Bachelor
of Science in Community and Regional Planning and Master’s in Community and
Regional Planning. The department also offers joint Masters degrees with
Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration and Business
Administration. In addition, the department offers a Masters degree in
Transportation jointly with the departments of Civil and Construction
Engineering and Transportation and Logistics. CRP administers a
university-wide GIS certificate and offers courses in a new GIS laboratory
in the College of Design as well as in the university GIS center
laboratory. Presently, faculty and students are actively engaged in
