The College
of Architecture at Georgia Tech aspires to elevate the standing of
scholarship in urban design. To do so, our City and Regional Planning and
Architecture Programs seek a jointly-hired tenure-track assistant or
associate professor who would bridge the two fields of architecture and
planning specifically in the area of urban design.
The College
of Architecture has accomplished faculty who contribute to our urban design
activities within the City and Regional Planning, Architecture, and Ph.D.
Programs. Further, three of the College’s research centers – the Center for
Quality Growth and Regional Development, the Center for Geographic
Information Systems, and the Imagine Lab – support innovative funded
research and scholarship that advance urban design. The College is home to
the Journal of the American Planning Association and is a partner
with the journal, Places. Students in the College can pursue
graduate degrees in urban design concentrations through the Master of
Architecture, Master of City and Regional Planning, the dual M.Arch/MCRP, or
a post-professional Master of Science in Urban Design.
Specifically, we seek candidates with a commitment to integrating planning
and design expertise in their classroom and research activities. The
successful candidate would be expected to teach graduate coursework in urban
design policy and implementation, to supervise students in planning and
design studios, and to advise students and participate in urban design
studio reviews in the various urban design degree programs. Candidates
holding a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning with a professional degree in
architecture, landscape architecture, or civil engineering are highly
preferred. Demonstrated potential or proven record of scholarship and
creative activity in urban design is required. We particularly encourage
candidates who can increase the diversity of our faculty. The position will
begin in August 2008, or as otherwise negotiated. We offer a competitive
salary and benefits package.
Applicants
should submit hard copies of their curriculum vitae; at least three samples
of publications, reports, or designs; three letters of reference; and a
statement of teaching, professional, research, and service interests to:
