Here is your chance to take charge of the books and monographs published by the American Planning Association, the leading organization in the field of urban and regional planning. APA is seeking a Senior Editor to supervise all phases of the publication process for Planning Advisory Service Reports and Planners Press books. Tasks include acquisition, content development, content editing, budgeting, and production. Planning Advisory Reports are highly respected research monographs that provide practical solutions to the problems urban planners face every day. Written by in-house staff, outside practitioners, and academics, PAS Reports offer principles, best practices, and case studies covering a wide variety of topics in the field of city planning. The Planning Advisory Service has produced more than 550 PAS Reports since 1949. Planners Press is an imprint of the American Planning Association, with more than 100 titles in print. The press publishes four to six books a year. The Senior Editor will be a part of APA's research staff in Chicago and will work closely with APA's publications and education staff. Candidates should have excellent editing and writing skills, a proven ability to develop ideas for publication, recruit authors, prepare manuscripts for publication, and prepare and adhere to a publications budget. The Senior Editor must have at least five years of experience as an editor. An undergraduate or graduate degree in planning is preferred, along with proven connections to the world of academicians and practitioners. Chicago is one of the most diverse, livable cities in the nation.
